'Werona' Trevallyn - design & Restoration
The restoration and refurbishment of this distinguished heritage property was conceived, designed, and constructed by Phillip Hawksley, blending deep respect for historical integrity with innovative adaptation for modern living.
Originally preserved in its untouched state, the property underwent a thoughtful transformation that included converting stables into a double garage and constructing a tunnel from the stables to provide direct access to the main staircase. All seven bedrooms were enhanced with bespoke ensuites and discreet, ducted air‑conditioning, carefully integrated to preserve the home’s character.
Every detail of the property’s fabric was meticulously restored. Exterior paint was painstakingly stripped to reveal the original colour palette, which was faithfully reinstated. Interior enhancements included the restoration of pressed metal ceilings, decorative rag‑painting and marbling, and the installation of bespoke Art Nouveau leadlight windows, all executed to authentically reflect the craftsmanship of the period. Even the axminster carpet was recreated from remnants found in situ, underscoring a commitment to historical accuracy.
This exceptional work earned three prestigious awards and garnered acclaim from both local and national media, establishing the project as a benchmark in heritage restoration and bespoke architectural excellence.
